Time: 7:00PM

Traditions are born when communities come together to embrace their culture where they live. Now in its 12th year of showcasing local, regional and international Latin Jazz artists, The Chicago Latin Jazz Festival returns to the Humboldt Park Boathouse, 1301 N. Sacramento Blvd on Friday, July 13 and Saturday, July 14 and to Navy Pier, 600 E. Grand on the Lake Stage in Polk Bros Park on Sunday, July 15.

A centerpiece of this year’s festival is a centennial birthday celebration of Cuban pianist Bebo Valdés, one of the founders of Latin jazz, and among the first to bring Afro-Cuban sacred rhythms to popular dance music. Bebo’s grandson Chuchito Valdés, (son of pianist Chucho Valdés) leads a tribute to his grandfather with the Chicago Latin Jazz Collaborative in performances on Friday at Humboldt Park and Sunday at Navy Pier.
