Roberto Roena began his career as a dancer at age 16 in Rafael Cortijo’s orchestra.
After a few months he was already participating as a bongocero, choreographer and member of the dance team with Ismael Rivera and Sammy Ayala.
He then became part of Mario Ortiz’s All Stars Band and the Gran Combo de Puerto Rico.
In 1967 he formed Los Megatones, but his most ambitious project was the Apollo Sound: an orchestra with two trombones, two trumpets and two saxophones fusing salsa with rock.
At the same time, he was also part of the Fania All-Stars.
