Spanish Harlem Orchestra (SHO) celebrates their 15th anniversary with their sixth album titled “Anniversary” and it´s presented this month in several Canadian cities. This two-time GRAMMY® award-winning orchestra (in 2004 for the second album of their artistic career “Across 110th Street” and again, in 2010 for “Viva La Tradición”) once again represents the salsa tradition with a contemporary CD, referring to its rich musical heritage. In this album the 13 musicians recognized internationally demonstrate because they are cataloged by many as: “Main Light of the Movement of Reconstruction of Salsa”.
This band of the new age since its inception has been under the direction of the pianist, composer and arranger, from South Bronx, Oscar Hernández. SHO has managed to earn the reputation of the true “Voz del Barrio” for their Hardcore rhythm on each of their albums, sophisticated arrangements and meticulous quality musical productions. Likewise, the Harlem Orchestra has a contagious energy on the stage that fills to the Salsa Dancers with enthusiasm throughout the four continents: America, Asia, Europe and Oceania.
In “Anniversary”, the 27 years old Jeremy Bosch (SHO Flute) debuts as lead vocalist and he is one of the most promising talents of SHO currently. You can hear him in: “Yo Te Prometo”, the second track of this album and he makes use of his virtuosity in the flute in: “Goza El Ritmo”, the fourth single of this sixth record production.
“Esa Nena” is the first track that stands out among the great arrangements made by Spanish Harlem Orchestra. Other historical moments of this album are the classics: the bolero “La Media Vuelta” is remade in a salsa style with 3-part harmonies and a simmering brass section. This theme was originally composed in the early 1960s by José Alfredo Jiménez. While “Y Deja” (Rubén Blades / Willie Colón) and “Guaracha y Bembe” (Joe Cuba / Cheo Feliciano) received updates that give it a fresher touch.
“Anniversary” produced by Oscar Hernández and co-produced by SHO trombonist and 2018 GRAMMY® Nominated, Doug Beavers. You can find it through ArtistShare→
